Working in conjunction with the Corporate Disability Manager, the Return to Work Coordinator will be responsible for the management of ill/injured employees focusing on the development and implementation of rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, return to work plans, and duty to accommodate agreements. This position will also participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of various injury prevention programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the sick leave, short-term and long-term disability absences for Cavendish Farms, Cavendish Agri, and Island Gas. The Return to Work Coordinator will also be the site's Wellness Coordinator.

  • Salary: $55K - 68K

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact with the Workers Compensation Board (WCB).
  • Liaise with the WCB, medical professionals and related agencies regarding WCB and medical claims management activities.
  • Work with all key stakeholders, internal and external in all aspects of Return to Work including graduated return to work programs and accommodations for WCB and medical claims.
  • Manage Workers' Compensation claims
  • collecting job and employee related data through observation, measurements or interviewing in an effort to manage the RTW process and overseeing modified work programs
  • Act as a resource for management and staff related to Return to Work Coordination
  • Monitor claim activity for objectionable findings
  • Perform a cost / benefit analysis to determine the most proactive strategy on difficult cases.
  • Track and monitor medical absences.
  • Correspond with employees, managers and Human Resources staff to ensure all documentation specific to Return to Work Coordination is received and actioned.
  • Comply with ethical, professional and legal requirements based on Irving policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the development and communication of Stay at Work/Return to Work policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, or Return to Work Coordination would be preferred.
  • 2 years' experience as a Return to Work Coordinator, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledgeable of the Return to Work process and its application.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people skills.
  • Solid understanding of Prince Edward Island's Workers Compensation regulations and policies, Human Rights, Health and Safety and
  • Employment Standards as they pertain to Return to Work Case Management.
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts related to disability investigations
  • Effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail.
  • Excellent leadership, teamwork and team building skills.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Able to travel (approximately 20%).
