Position Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Senior Manager, Human Resources and is responsible for administering and coordinating HR programs, policies, and procedures with a primary focus on labor relations and employee engagement. This role serves as the first point of contact for employees and supervisors, providing guidance, advice, and responses to various HR-related inquiries. Additionally, the HR Generalist will assist with administrative duties, including organizing training sessions and company culture events.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the Collective Agreement, including grievance process interpretation and application.
  • Assist the Senior Manager, Human Resources in addressing and resolving employee-related issues effectively.
  • Conduct investigations into sensitive issues and provide recommendations for resolution, ensuring discretion and consistency with practices, policies, and the Collective Agreement.
  • Act as an advisor to operational leaders on administering collective agreements.
  • Administer the Attendance Management Program to ensure consistent application and compliance.
  • Escalate cases to the Senior Manager, HR as needed.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders on non-occupational disability accommodations and leaves of absence.
  • Provide regular follow-ups with employees and updates to supervisors regarding return-to-work processes.
  • Coach and mentor supervisors, offering recommendations and resolutions for employee concerns.
  • Conduct frequent plant visits to meet hourly employees, address issues, and gather feedback.
  • Organize training sessions and employee engagement activities as needed.
  • Conduct exit interviews and compile exit analysis reports for management review.
  • Act as a liaison for employee benefits and payroll inquiries, ensuring timely follow-ups, processing employee vouchers, vendor payments, and preparing job reference letters.
  • Provide backup coverage for Health and Safety, completing forms and conducting investigations as necessary.
  • Assist with HR audits, employee record-keeping, and timely reporting within HRIS systems.
  • Support the Senior Manager, Human Resources with reporting on location-based KPIs.
  • Lead the recruitment and selection processes for hourly employees, including posting positions, screening applications, interviewing, reference checks, preparing offer letters, and conducting new hire orientations.
  • Support the Senior Manager, HR with internal and external salary recruitment postings, resume screening, interview scheduling, reference checks, and updating recruitment trackers.
  • Provide administrative support as required.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Human Resource Management or equivalent experience in Human Resources; CHRP designation is a strong asset.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in an HR generalist role, preferably within a manufacturing environment. Experience in a unionized environment is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Kronos.
  • Self-motivated with a strong hands-on work ethic.
