What will you be doing!

  • Supervising training Officers.
  • Assessing and reviewing the development and implementation of lesson plans.
  • Directing firefighting staff at both emergencies and regular scheduled activities.
  • Conducting annual performance reviews of Training Officers and Training Coordinator.
  • Encouraging communications between the supervisor and his/her employee in matters relating to job performance, career planning and development.
  • Providing the Company with an inventory of its skilled resources for purposes of human resources planning and development.
  • Communicating to the Fire Chief, information relevant to the employee's level of performance and potential to advance or transfer in the Company and to determine what development may be needed.
  • Observing and coaching of CRL Fire Operations Staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Certified to NFPA 1001 Firefighter Levels I & II.
    • Certified to NFPA 1002 Standard for Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications, Chapter 5 Apparatus Equipped with Fire Pump.
    • Certified to NFPA 1041 - Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, Level III and
      willing to acquire Live Fire Instructor in Charge.
    • Certified to NFPA 1021 Standard for Fire Officer for Professional Qualifications Level II and willing to progress through to acquiring Level IV.
    • Certified to NFPA 1035 Standard for Professional Qualifications for Public Fire and Life Safety Educator, Level I and willing to progress through to acquiring Level III.
    • Certified to NFPA 1033 Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator.
    • Certified to NFPA 1521 Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer, Health & Safety Officer and Incident Safety Officer Levels.
    • Certified to NFPA 1072 Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications, Hazardous Materials Technician Level and willing to acquire Incident Commander Level.
    • Certified to Ontario Incident Management System Level 200/250.
    • Must be able to acquire and maintain training certificates in First Aid, CPR, O2 BLS, and AED.
  • Experience
    • 10 or more years of progressively responsible related experience or any equivalent combination of
      education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Must possess a valid Class D Driver's License with Z endorsement or equivalent.
    • Knowledge of nuclear industry standards for developing and implementing training program.
    • Extensive knowledge of modern firefighting, related emergency services and the operation and routine maintenance of apparatus and equipment.
    • Demonstrably aware of and able to implement NFPA 1403 Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions regarding the CRL Live Fire Fighting Training Centre (LFFTC).
    • Demonstrably aware of and able to implement NFPA 1561 Standard on Emergency Services Incident Management System and Command Safety.
    • Ensures appropriate interpretation and application of legislation, codes, and the licensing agreement.
    • Ensures compliance with all applicable NFPA standards and other standards related to the job requirements of CRL Fire Operations department.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with department staff and the general public both orally and in writing.
    • Maturity and interpersonal skills, ability to comprehend or be cognizant with a broad range of technological and/or business issues.
    • Must have the ability to organize work responsibilities associated with the position.
    • Subject matter expert in specialized areas considered an asset.
    • Ability to effectively instruct a variety of subjects to students at all levels
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to respond, as scheduled, to emergencies at CRL and/or throughout Renfrew County.
  • During emergencies, work in highly hazardous IDLH and Hot Zone environments and wear personal protective equipment.
