Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace, Kitchener has an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Manager. The Human Resource Manager is a key member of the division and functional leadership team to oversee all the human capital aspects for the division or function. An energetic leader, passionate about change and unlocking the potential of people through established discipline, is an enabler of all leaders in their critical role as people managers. In collaboration with the Corporate organization, plans, develops, recommends, and implements human resources activities, policies, procedures, programs for the division or function, assisting upper management as requested.

Essential Duties

  • Manages activities relating to staffing, on-boarding, employee development and training, performance management, labor relations and employee relations investigations, benefits and salary administration at the division in accordance to company policies and local applicable laws.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates employee performance, and recommends or initiates promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action. May administer pre-employment tests to applicants when applicable.
  • Prepares reports and recommends procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover.
  • Manages employee relations and engagement activities including but not limited to representing company at personnel-related hearings and investigations, writing separation notices for employees separating with cause, supporting people leaders with their engagement action plans. May negotiate collective bargaining agreement when applicable.
  • Investigates accidents and grievance and document reports for management or third party providers.
  • Keeps records of hired employee characteristics for governmental reporting purposes. Keeps records of insurance coverage, pension plan, and personnel transactions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, and terminations.
  • Participates in compensation and benefit administration cycle including but not limited to conducts wage survey within labor market to determine competitive wage rate and remain apprised of current trends.
  • Prepares and analyzes department budget to identify budget needs and/or reductions, and may allocate operating budget funds. May supervise clerical workers.
  • Liaises and collaborates with various levels of management to determine areas that require strengthening and/or improvement of workforce learning and development.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Contributes to and drives the implementation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives such as promoting fair and equitable hiring practices and developing an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Performs physical security clearance for new hires and current employees based on customer requirement or legislation (ITAR, CGP, Security access, Designated Official, and others when applicable)
  • Ensure security of company premises in accordance with CGP/ITAR regulations

Position Requirements

  • A combination of 5-7 years management experience and 5-10 years experience in human resources, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Business Management/Commerce and/or certification in Human Resource Management
  • Professional designation such as CHRL, CIPD, SHRM
  • Practical knowledge of employee/labour relations, recruitment, compensation/benefits, and applicable HR legislation is essential.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times and deal with personal/sensitive matters of a highly private nature.

  • A willingness to work flexible hours when required by the demands of the role.
  • Candidates who are chosen for the position will need to pass the necessary government security clearances for the Controlled Goods Program.
