Our payroll operations function is a critical component to ensuring quality and accurate payroll for our unionized and corporate employees in Canada. Reporting to the Manager or Supervisor, Payroll Operations, we are seeking a talented Payroll Analyst to ensure that assigned payrolls are processed accurately and effectively in our Workday payroll solution.
This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will be in the office 2-3 days per week.
Accountabilities:
Plan, direct and coordinate payroll operations to ensure accurate and timely delivery of payroll
Prepares, balances and reconciles payroll data, completing audits on any changes and updates to payroll.
Processes and reviews earnings, deductions and tax withholdings applying company policy, collective agreements & tax compliance requirements.
Calculates earnings such as retro pay, holiday pay, reimbursements from employees for overpayments, benefits, pensions, union dues, paid leaves, etc.
Interprets collective bargaining agreements (CBA's) to process union commitments in a timely manner
Meets regularly with field operations (Long Term Care Homes, Paramed, Assist Homes, etc.) and to confirm payroll schedule and payments, notify of items to be corrected, and understand any issues.
Assists in developing procedures to ensure the integrity and privacy of payroll data
Maintains knowledge of current legislation, Collective Agreements, and database requirements pertaining to earnings and deductions
Performs quarterly balancing verifying that payroll tax deductions are accurate and in compliance with tax regulations.
Answers ServiceNow tickets for escalated inquiries, providing resolution details to employees and in tickets for FAQ's.
Completes required payroll testing and adds/updates documentation for our payroll knowledge base.
Solves problems to correct inaccurate payments and processing corrections.
Works with the benefits teams to correct and/or adjust payroll deductions.
Reconciles and processes 3rd party payments.
Assists with special projects and any other duties as required.
Contributes to a collegial and collaborative environment, sharing information and best practices, trains less experienced team members, supports special projects and initiatives, and provides support for escalated payroll questions and issues.
Identifies opportunities to automate manual processes.
Qualifications:
University degree or diploma in HR, Finance or equivalent related work experience.
Minimum of 3 years' experience as a payroll analyst running unionized payrolls in Workday.
Demonstrated experience understanding collective bargaining agreements pertaining to payroll.
Demonstrated knowledge of multi-provincial large employer payrolls and taxes regulations.
Comfortable processing and maintaining a high volume ensuring high level of accuracy through attention to detail.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and troubleshooting issues.
Outstanding customer service skills and dedication to providing exceptional employee experiences with a focus on quality customer service.
Planning and organizational skills with proven ability to manage competing priorities with tight timelines.
Ability to work in a team environment to achieve goals and work independently.
Excellent Microsoft Office skills, especially in Excel including pivot tables / VLOOKUP.
Able to perform successfully under pressure while prioritizing and handling multiple projects or activities.
Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation through the Canadian Payroll Association would be an asset.
Workday payroll certification would be an asset
