About the role

The selected candidate will actively be involved in managing the day to day Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) program, primarily for all the Rotary & Mission Systems (RMS) Business Area (BA) sites across Canada. The candidate will work closely with the business unit Managers, Union and senior leadership team, site ESH Part Time Coordinators (PTC) as well with corporate office on all ESH policies and procedures. The ESH Lead will maintain all ESH plant records and be responsible for specific ESH projects.

  • Accountable for departmental budget development in line with overall business commitments and corporate objectives
  • Responsible for business continuity
  • Develop, implement and control ESH programs in alignment with federal, provincial and municipal legislation
  • Coordinate and liaise with governmental agencies (e.g. Health Canada)
  • Participate as an auditor to the Enablon Self-Assessment Program
  • Provide leadership to each of the local ESH committees at all Canadian RMS sites
  • Implement and modify work programs (back to work & worker compensation)
  • Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations
  • End-to-End Responsibility for monitoring adherence to company safety program
  • Ensures timely completion of accident/injury reporting and record keeping, including reporting with the applicable provincial Workplace Safety Board (e.g. Worksafe BC in British Colombia)
  • Develop, implement and evaluate health and safety programs and strategies (including training)
  • Lead environmental programs & track compliance to all regulated requirements using the Corporate Enablon tool
  • End-to-End Responsibility for Environmental and hazardous waste pick up contract services.
  • End-to-End Responsibility for all ESH document procedures (e.g. lockout tag out, machine guarding, etc.).
  • End-to-End Responsibility to ensure all eye wash stations, emergency showers, first aid kits and fire extinguishers are in compliance
  • On-site leader for developing and coordinating all evacuation plans (e.g. Fire, LM Notify, chemical etc.), including acting as local Fire Brigade Chief in the event of an evacuation.
  • Develop and implement ESH requirements, where applicable, for a modern, safe, efficient Hybrid work environment, aligned to Corporate ESH Policy
  • Manage industrial hygiene issues
  • Perform administration duties of the Contractor Management tool for Irving Shipbuilding Inc. called ISNetworld
  • Perform administration duties of the Contractor Management tool for THALES Canada called WAMS
  • Perform administration duties for the company SDS Management tool called MSDSonline
  • Administer the office ergonomics in accordance with Ergo Policy.

What you bring to the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in management, Environmental occupation health & safety or equivalent experience and education
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge of Federal and Provincial legislation related to ESH
  • Understanding of Government procedures
  • Experience with corporate ESH requirements
  • Technical qualifications: Computer skills, information researcher, political skills
  • Excellent ability to communicate and summarize information, in both written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to build and maintain interpersonal relationships to comprehend of the strategic stakes and work as a team through knowledge sharing, autonomous work, and results oriented behaviours.
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License’
  • Special working conditions:
    • Be on call. Presence may be required on shifts (afternoon, night, weekends).

Additional skills desired for the role

  • Valid Ontario Workplace Nolaxone Training Certificate
  • Current North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secret and Controlled Goods (CG) clearance would be considered an asset
  • University Accreditation in Office Ergonomics
  • Fluent in French & English preferred.
