FIREFLY is seeking a full time Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team in our Red Lake location. FIREFLY is the central access point for Ministry-funded voluntary programs for children aged 0-18 years and their families in the Kenora and Rainy River districts.

The Rehabilitation Assistant will assist Physiotherapists (PT) and/or Occupational Therapists (OT) in the interventions of preschool and school aged clients, monitor, maintain and organize equipment. The Rehab Assistant will also provide services in partnership with Kenora Chiefs Advisory.

FIREFLY is a multi-service, non-profit organization located in Northwestern Ontario that has recently been designated a Children's Treatment Centre. We are dedicated to supporting and strengthening the health and well-being of families, children, and youth through emotional, physical, developmental, and community services. Clients can access FIREFLY service in a variety of locations: centre based, in community (fly-in and drive-in communities), in schools, pre-schools, child care settings, home based and in-home visits. FIREFLY offices are located throughout Northwestern Ontario, providing a unique opportunity to build strong relationships with children and families, local colleagues and community partners. Key Job Functions:


  • Assist in conducting OT/PT specific screenings
  • Assist in the organization of summer therapy camps
  • Assist in the provision of OT/PT specific therapy programs
  • Provide program support including informal and formal documentation
  • Prepare resource and promotional materials
  • Maintain rehabilitation equipment
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Provide creative programming to ensure clients are having fun while working towards rehabilitation goals

Education/Experience/Skills Required:


  • Graduate of an accredited Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapy Assistant and/or Rehabilitation Assistant Diploma program preferred or diploma in a Health Sciences or related field
  • Experience in clinical rehabilitation in an outpatient or community based setting
  • Experience working with children who experience a variety of challenges
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in child development
  • Demonstrated knowledge, familiarity and proficiency with PT/OT current assessment and intervention techniques, including anatomy and pathophysiology, therapeutic outcome measures and all therapeutic equipment and modalities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and windows based software programs/ keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to independently manage and maintain rehabilitation equipment inventory.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Able to work flexible hours
  • Must hold a valid driver's license
