Required Position

The Office of Campus Safety is seeking to fill three (3) vacancies :

  • One (1) Permanent Full-Time
  • Two (2) temporary Full-Time Appointments until August 31, 2025

These positions primarily require night shifts, with a standard 40 hour workweek, however, the schedule is subject to changed based on operational requirements.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Campus Safety the Security Guard will

  • Provide safety and security to all staff, students and visitors on Laurentian University's campus;
  • Enforce laws and regulations on campus;
  • Direct traffic and enforce traffic regulations;
  • Investigate complaints, offenses and traffic accidents;
  • Conduct security and fire patrols of campus buildings and grounds;
  • Perform traffic and crowd control at special events;
  • Supply information to the general public of a regulatory and directional nature;
  • Provide first-response emergency assistance;
  • Provide money escorts, collection, maintenance of machines and delivery to the Treasury Department;
  • Maintain parking equipment;
  • Provide monthly inspections of emergency phones, parking lots and elevators;
  • Submit reports concerning assigned activities; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College diploma preferably in Law and Security or the equivalent in related experience;
  • In possession of a current Ontario Security Guard license;
  • In possession of a current "G" Ontario Driver's license in good standing;
  • In possession of a driver's abstract in good standing;
  • Ability to work at the Ramsey Lake location and the Laurentian Architecture Laurentienne (LAL);
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of security or police experience;
  • Good health and physical condition;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate, CPR 'C' with defibrillator training; and
  • Ability to work fluently, orally and in writing, in both official languages, French and English is required.

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
