The Niijii Outreach & Recruitment Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing outreach initiatives, recruitment events, and supporting the Niijii Mentorship Program. This role fosters relationships with Indigenous communities, educational partners, and high schools to promote academic pathways and increase Indigenous student enrollment at Lakehead University. Key responsibilities include volunteer and student mentor coordination for the Niijii Indigenous Mentorship Program, student tours, and engagement activities to enhance the university’s profile. The coordinator also collaborates on innovative recruitment strategies to strengthen community connections and support Indigenous student success.

Responsibilites


  • Coordinate, design, develop, and facilitate on and off-campus Niijii Indigenous Mentorship program delivery, Niijii events, volunteers and academic unit partnerships.
  • Foster new and innovative partnerships and opportunities to grow the Niijii program. Utilizing community engagement opportunities to facilitate new and innovative opportunities/relationships to engage the community and grow the Niijii program.
  • Coordinate on and off-campus Niijii Indigenous Mentorship activities such as Indigenous Preview Day, Niijii Research Fair, tours, career and education fairs, summer camps, Grade 7/8 engagement, and specialized student-focused events.
  • Recruit and manage Indigenous tour guides (LU students) to lead specialized tours for Indigenous prospects.
  • Design, coordination and implementation of new initiatives and advertising materials, promotional materials and advertisements.
  • Build, foster, and grow community relationships to increase the profile of the Niijii Indigenous Mentorship Program in the local and regional high schools and the wider community.

Qualifications


  • Undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, oral communication and presentation skills
  • Understanding of the public education system
  • Thorough understanding of undergraduate program offering/student support at Lakehead
  • Knowledge of/about Indigenous (First Nation, Metis, Inuit) culture, history, experience, heritage, language and associations
