VISION:


At the Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA), we celebrate and honor the safety and healing of Indigenous Women and Girls as they take up their leadership roles in the family, community, provincially, nationally, and internationally for generations to come.


SCOPE:


The Community Training Facilitator will develop and implement the training programs for the Anti Racism Project as well as assist with special projects in the Community Development Portfolio. They will train health care professionals across the province to recognize and support the individual needs of Indigenous women and their families in a culturally rooted wholistic way. The Community Training Facilitator will develop trainings/workshops and collect resource materials, including wise practices and communication materials to support health related cultural safety training as part of the Community Development team. This program will focus on the development and training for health care professionals to create safe culturally grounded healthcare experiences for Indigenous women and their families. They will develop and enhance key community relationships with all internal and external stakeholders including ONWA services and membership, Indigenous Communities, Health care professionals across the province.



QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Women's Studies and/or health studies with a minimum three (3) to five years working experience in a training/facilitator role.
  • Knowledge and experience in facilitation and training processes and protocols.
  • Experience coordinating workshops and/or conferences, facilitating meetings and engagements.
  • Experience with resource development and implementation.
  • Expert knowledge relating to Indigenous focused training execution.
  • Ability to work cross-culturally, and especially across the range of Indigenous communities, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to take initiative, gain consensus and work with people representing varying interests.
  • Excellent communication skills including written, oral and facilitation skills.
  • Experience in integrated knowledge, and a high level of creativity to provide engaging training opportunities to all audiences.
  • Demonstrated administrative management and coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Culture, Traditions, and Indigenous Community.
  • Strong awareness of issues affecting Indigenous women and people and awareness of community resources within the province.
  • Solution oriented with proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of and relationships with other service agencies, ability to network and create/maintain these relationships.
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction and be able to improve performance through management feedback.
  • Ability to plan and manage time effectively.
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and an ability to follow through on assigned duties independently with strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Not-For Profit Organizations.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
  • Proficient working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, and general office equipment.
  • Reliable vehicle, appropriate insurance coverage and valid Ontario "G" class driver's license.
  • Ability to travel provincially as required and perform shift work including weekends and evenings to meet community needs.
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
  • Cellular phone and internet access is required within this position.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
