What You Will Do

Provide outstanding safety guidance to assigned project management and construction teams involved in the delivery of a variety of construction projects throughout the transit system including work on subway and surface track, in carhouses, shops, bus garages and yards. Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of health, safety, security, and environmental protection policies and procedures for Engineering, Construction, and Expansion (ECE) Group's Health and Safety Management System and transition to COR 2020 standard. Perform construction assurance and compliance activities which may include reviewing and monitoring contractor safe work plans, performing on site observations, writing reports, and providing other various support to ensure contractors are in compliance with the relevant OHS legislation, standards and TTC contract requirements. Provide guidance, coaching and mentorship to workplace parties. Develops and delivers various health and safety training and communication. Participates and supports incident investigations, including follow up actions to ensure implementation of identified corrective actions. Support Joint Health and Safety Committees. Demonstrates behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment and helps to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC's commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC's policies. Participates in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

Due to the nature of projects, working hours, shifts (day/night) and work weeks may vary. Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines or in case of emergencies.

What Skills Do You Bring?

• Apply Health and Safety Management System in a transit construction and industrial environment (e.g. COR, ISO 45001 or equivalent).
• Identify and manage hazards and risks on Transit Construction Projects
• Understand and apply relevant occupational health and safety laws and regulations, with focus on construction and industry best practices.
• Review and audit contractor safe work plans against relevant OHS legislation and contract requirements.
• Plan and organize activities and projects to meet section and organizational goals
• Apply advanced incident investigation techniques, with ability to identify root causes and corrective actions
• Technical report writing and analytical skills
• Review engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Train and communicate in a variety of mediums
• Apply continuous improvement priciples
• Use office technology, software and applications
• Strong organization with ability to manage multiple task and critical timelines
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage collaborative stakeholder internal/external relationships (e.g. team work, issue resolution, client relationship management).

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

• Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Occupational Health & Safety Technology, Engineering Technology), combined with several years' experience in the delivery of Occupational Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Programs with focus on a construction environment; or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
• Experience in health and safety management monitoring, and oversight, preferably within the construction industry
• Must have or be able to obtain certification by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals.
• Must have a valid Province of Ontario Class G driver's license and use of own vehicle.
• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations for Construction Projects, Industrial Establishments, WHMIS, First Aid, Environmental Protection Act, Technical Standards and Safety Act and Workplace and Safety Insurance Act).
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite.
