About the Role
Reporting to the Vice President of Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards and HR Business Services, the Director, Total Rewards is responsible for shaping and executing the organization's Total Rewards strategy. You will drive efforts to attract, retain, engage, and motivate talent across the organization by overseeing compensation, benefits, rewards, and recognition programs. Acting as a strategic advisor, you will collaborate with business leaders and HR teams to align Total Rewards practices with critical business initiatives, fostering a culture that reflects the company’s Employee Value Proposition (EVP).
Key Responsibilities
Total Rewards Strategy: Develop and implement a competitive and relevant Total Rewards strategy aligned with the organization's strategic objectives and EVP, including compensation and benefits philosophy, recognition programs, and AI-enabled tools to enhance the employee experience.
Total Rewards Administration: Manage the daily operations of Compensation and Benefits programs, ensuring alignment with organizational design and compliance with legislative changes. Oversee financial planning and reporting related to Total Rewards and support budget management.
Consultation and Collaboration: Serve as an expert advisor to senior management, providing strategic guidance on Total Rewards programs and policies, including support during collective bargaining processes. Collaborate with HR Business Partners and leaders to align compensation impacts with organizational design.
Employer Value Proposition (EVP) Application: Lead the integration of the EVP into Total Rewards offerings, supporting initiatives that communicate the organization's commitment to employee well-being and value. Oversee annual Total Rewards statements and contribute to Top Employer applications.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management: Engage with strategic vendors to support benchmarking, best practices, and innovative program development. Ensure effective partnerships that enhance Total Rewards administration and alignment with industry standards.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate for the Director, Total Rewards position is a strategic and forward-thinking HR leader with a deep understanding of HRMS systems, particularly within Compensation and Benefits modules (experience with Oracle Fusion is highly preferred). Your collaborative approach and laser focus on providing services that are “Better, Easier and Faster” to all employees will serve you well within a purpose driven organization. You will possess a strong foundation in project management and change management, backed by hands-on experience in leading HR transformations. Adept at modern HR practices, you bring a strategic mindset, critical thinking skills, and a results-oriented approach to drive organizational change. Knowledge of data science and AI applications within Total Rewards is an asset, with an ability to harness innovative tools and insights to enhance employee engagement. With exceptional communication skills, you are able to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, navigate complex challenges, and lead initiatives that align with the WSIB’s mission and values, and have the ability to manage cross-functional teams and vendor relationships both internally and externally.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, preferably with a specialization in Compensation and Benefits, or a related field.
CHRL designation (or in progress), or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designations.
8-10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3-5 years in a management or leadership role focused on Total Rewards strategy, program design, and senior-level reporting.
Previous experience in compensation, benefits strategy, and leveraging Total Rewards as part of the EVP is essential.
