Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for an Employee Relations Consultant to join our team!
As an Employee Relations Consultant, you will provide day-to-day guidance to all levels of TTC management, staff and unionized employees on a wide variety of employment and Human Resources issues. You will oversee and resolve grievances, mediations and arbitrations; collect data to support negotiations with bargaining units; and interpret existing agreements, policies, procedures, and rules and regulations. You will also provide support on attendance related matters; and research and prepare a variety of labour relations studies and projects as required.
Moreover, you will establish a close working relationship with managers, union representatives and Human Resources Department staff to identify, develop and implement dispute resolution strategies, and develop and deliver targeted training programs; identify and report on developments in labour law and their impact on the TTC; and ensure work practices are following all policy and legislation requirements.
As a TTC employee, you will be responsible for promoting a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination. You will also be participating in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.
• Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (Industrial Relations) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
• Several years of directly related work experience in a union environment.
• An LL.B designation or Masters of Industrial Relations, and experience in labour and employment law are assets.
• Thorough understanding of employee and labour relations practices and principles and the collective bargaining process as well as demonstrated familiarity with, and ability to interpret, collective agreements.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the Ontario Labour Relations Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act and related legislation and jurisprudence.
• Strong negotiation, mediation and conciliation skills; well-developed problem-solving, investigative, organizational, time management, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
