Looking for a new and exciting opportunity? We are looking for a Foreperson, Training to join our team!

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Manager - Communications Maintenance, you will be responsible for effectively delivering a comprehensive range of training programs to diverse groups in the classroom, at actual work locations, to large and small groups, and on a one-on-one basis enterprise wide. You will also be responsible for reading, comprehending and explaining complex concepts, technical information and maintenance procedures related to the testing, repair, rehabilitation and maintenance of various communications and safety/security systems. The incumbent will also supervise the work of union employees within the section.

Other responsibilities of your role will include:

  • Developing, implementing and administering a customized training program for employees of Communications
  • Developing and maintaining specific training plans and standard operating procedures
  • Delivering and evaluating hands-on training/familiarization programs for all aspects of Communications' equipment and the associated components/systems and/or attachments
  • Participating in needs-assessments, conduct needs-analyses, and prepare job specific task listings
  • Conducting classroom and practical instruction, evaluate the performance of participants, and certify that employees had successfully completed the training modules
  • Preparing and maintaining training aids/materials and ensuring the availability of such resources to meet training needs
  • Providing a range of services such as consultation and research on new equipment
  • Preparing various reports and recommendations related to areas of responsibility
  • Ensuring that all training program activities comply with the S/E/C Training section SOP's, corporate safety programs, policies and legislated initiatives and regulations
  • Presenting recommendations to Senior Management regarding new or revised training programs
  • Working with all internal and external stakeholders to deliver above average training programs
  • Supervising the performance of trainees within the section
  • Analyzing and recommending improvements to work methods and procedures, to ensure the functions of the section are performed in the most efficient manner

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma in a related discipline (e.g., Adult Education at a community college or equivalent) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Your certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) will be considered an asset.
  • Your possession of a valid, non-probationary class "G" Driver's Licence is required; you may be required to use a personal vehicle for work assignments.
  • You will have or be able to obtain specific accreditation to certify and/or licence employees through the delivery of regulated training programs.
  • Understanding of engineering principles and specialized knowledge of electrical/electronic inspection, construction, maintenance and repair standards, procedures and practices combined with working knowledge of related trades.
  • Your application will reveal comprehensive knowledge of Communications operations, principles and practices.
  • You will have thorough knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic communications equipment such as SCADA Display Services, PLC Based E.T. Systems, fire detection and prevention systems, intrusion and burglar alarms, CAD/AVL Infrastructure, TETRA Radio, surface/subway, revenue/non-revenue vehicle communication systems, CCTV, DWA, WAW TDM, EMS, Wi-Fi, and AP units, RTUs, and other safety systems.
  • You will also have sound knowledge of applicable legislation. (e.g., Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Canadian Electrical Code, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, Employment Standards Act, AODA, Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, etc.)
  • You will have knowledge of the applicable Collective Agreements and proven ability to communicate effectively with union representatives.
  • You will have knowledge of PC's and computer applications skills related to the work (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Maximo, STARS, etc.)
  • Your application will reveal demonstrated knowledge and experience in the field of technical communications/technical publications.
  • Your strong knowledge of adult education, training concepts and practices and the ability to carry out and coordinate projects both independently and within a team will be beneficial to you in this role.
  • Additionally, you will have the ability to set targets, objectives, delegate tasks and follow-up to ensure objectives are achieved.
  • You will have sound judgement, well-developed organizational, interpersonal, analytical, group facilitation, coaching, problem solving and leadership skills. You will also have excellent verbal/written communication and the ability to communicate in a variety of mediums.
  • You will have good knowledge of relevant laws and regulations with ability to apply and develop new proposals for curriculums.
  • Additionally, you will possess well-developed technical writing and editing skills with ability to analyze, organize, review and edit complex technical information/documentation.
  • You will have the ability to apply principles of pedagogy by using various teaching techniques for all levels of comprehension.
  • Your ability to develop training products in a range of instructional media will also be beneficial in this role.
  • You will have or be able to obtain specific accreditation to certify and/or licence employees through the delivery of regulated training programs.
