Our company is seeking to hire a The Human Resource Specialist, Retail will work in cooperation with the Director, Human Resources and stores on a daily basis to provide administrative support to the HR functions as needed. This individual will work closely with the Director, Human Resources and together, will collaborate with Store Managers, District Managers and Director of Retail Operations and who additionally can be nice, will seek inspiration from our roots, can commit to achieving results the right way and loves to think big to join us on our journey

Reporting directly to the Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources Specialist, Retail brings an energetic results-oriented attitude to all initiatives that accurately reflect the Roots brand. The Human Resources Specialist, Retail for Roots will be responsible for the following:

  • Manage and respond to inquiries that are sent to the general HR mailbox
  • Support the life cycle of retail recruitment
  • Manage and maintain Dayforce (HRIS) for the retail population through but not limited to the set up of employee files, workflow administration, performance management and goal setting set up.
  • Collaborate with retail leaders to build and maintain health and safety practices across all locations. This includes ensuring all training and compliance requirements are met, monthly review of Health and Safety inspections and management of WSIB & WCB claims
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the retail population including turnover, exit interviews, onboarding surveys, LOA etc.
  • Maintain policies and trainings for retail population and update as required
  • Manage medical leaves and leave of absence communication with all employees
  • Work with Director, Human Resources as necessary to support the resolution of employee relations matters
  • Support with administration, communications and training of all cyclical processes as they relate to the retail business (performance reviews, merit, goal setting)
  • Assist with Ad Hoc HR project completion and meets required deadlines
  • Assist in the research and development of various human resource procedures, policies, and initiatives

Top candidates for the HR Specialist, Retail role will have the following:

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent
  • 3-5 years' experience supporting HR preferably in a retail organization
  • Working towards CHRP or CHRL/CHRE designation considered an asset
  • Current knowledge of HR practices and employment legislation
  • Knowledge of HRIS systems an asset (Ceridian Dayforce preferred)
  • Ability to set priorities and undertake multiple tasks with tight deadlines
  • Effective in setting timelines, organizing work and communicating with team
  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal, formal and informal)
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Must be able to represent Roots in a positive manner both internally and externally
