About the Position

We are currently seeking a Manager, Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), in Toronto, Ontario (with ability to travel and work periodically in Montréal, Quebec).

Reporting to the Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Council, the Manager will be a D&I leader who is driven by a passion for change management and continuous improvement in fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. The ideal candidate will be a results-oriented individual who inspires firm members to support diversity in their day-to-day activities, building a thriving, inclusive culture.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning process for D&I at the firm, considering current data and best management practices to develop focused initiatives that support and enhance diversity in recruiting, retention and advancement
  • Lead the implementation and management of D&I initiatives across the firm's offices in Toronto, Montréal and New York, ensuring alignment with the firm's broader organizational goals and objectives, including developing and implementing strategies to embed D&I principles into the firm's talent acquisition, retention and development practices
  • Encourage continual growth of the People Networks (Employee Resource Groups), managing their overall strategic direction, facilitating high-impact meetings, advising on annual proposals and overseeing the execution of key projects to support D&I goals
  • Design and deliver firm wide education and training strategies to raise firm members' awareness of, and engagement with, underrepresented groups
  • Refresh bias reduction education and strategies among firm leadership and employees
  • Partner with the firm's communications team to develop content for internal and external D&I communications, ensuring consistent messaging across multiple channels, including website and social media
  • Oversee the firm's participation in external D&I programming and events, identifying key opportunities for partnerships and ensuring strong engagement
  • Champion the biannual Diversity & Engagement survey, leveraging data-driven insights to support D&I strategic planning and guide firm leadership in making informed decisions; Lead efforts to integrate survey results into organizational initiatives and employee engagement practices
  • Lead efforts to track and analyze D&I metrics, ensuring effective reporting against strategic goals and recommending adjustments to maintain momentum
  • Actively participate in the Avenue Black and Indigenous Undergraduate Law Internship Program, including contributing to the curriculum committee to enhance program quality and structure
  • Provide D&I input in responding to client ESG inquiries and developing requests for proposals (RFPs) and pitches, as needed
  • Perform other leadership duties as required to further strengthen D&I initiatives and firmwide objectives
  • Manage and oversee the full-time D&I Coordinator based in Montréal, providing guidance and support to ensure successful implementation of D&I initiatives across the firm

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (advanced degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources or related field is a plus)
  • A minimum of three years of experience managing D&I initiatives at a mid-senior level, including developing and executing complex D&I strategies
  • Understanding of D&I in corporate environments (knowledge of the legal sector is an asset)
  • Proven track record of influencing and driving change, with a strong understanding of D&I best practices, frameworks and trends
  • Experience developing and delivering D&I training programs and workshops Strong project management expertise, with a demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and manage multiple priorities in an evolving environment
  • Experience in data analysis and reporting, with the ability to translate D&I metrics into actionable insights and strategic recommendations
  • Excellent strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to think critically and make data-driven decisions
  • Strong leadership abilities, including experience in coaching, mentoring and motivating internal teams to achieve D&I goals
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with diverse teams at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently while fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Fluency in French is preferred
