Job Description
Core Responsibilities:
Provide industry expertise and manage the execution of the employee lifecycle including but not limited to onboarding and orientation, changes to compensation and total rewards (salary, position, promotion, etc.), employee relations, and offboarding
Proactively engage with employees in support of engagement and culture
Ensure the accuracy and currency of confidential employee files, in compliance with applicable laws, corporate policies, and audit requirements
Oversee the administration of employee group benefits, pension, employee vacation entitlement, and organization structure changes
Conduct sensitive investigations in compliance with legislation relating to employee complaints, policy infractions, etc
Develop and maintain strong relationships with employees and leaders providing world-class employee relations support
Manage workplace investigations from end to end
Guide and coach Human Resources Generalists on sensitive employee relations matters
Support People and Culture leadership and key stakeholders with employment claims and other legal matters
Provide input and recommendations to the Director of People and Culture and other business leaders for continuous improvement opportunities, including process improvements, employee engagement initiatives, data and reporting, and implement approved changes
In consultation with others, use a combination of HRMS and other data or system sources to design, prepare, and provide leaders with people and culture data/reports and insights, in support of the strategic objectives of the organization
Maintain knowledge and expertise of Canadian and US employment legislation, and best practices, recommend changes to the Director of People and Culture, and implement changes as needed
Visit and work out of multiple project offices in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to build relationships with staff and act as a key point of contact for Human Resources support
Leadership
Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of departmental data, managed both at the leadership level and within the team
Engage with direct reports in difficult employee relationship issues: teach, coach, and model successful problem-solving and creative solutions
Manage team performance through the performance review cycle. This includes documenting and praising success as well as documenting and solving performance issues swiftly
Lead the training and development of direct reports. This includes the facilitation of proactive workshops and training sessions
Enable each employee to realize their potential within the organization by creating an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture and by setting SMART goals to work towards each year
Communication
Maintain strict confidentiality. This role involves the access to and sharing of information, decisions, and communication that is deemed to be sensitive or confidential
Be an active listener and adapt your communication and leadership style to your audience
Provide effective constructive feedback to your peers and team. Ensure the message is direct and clear to afford the other party to learn and grow from the experience
Communicate openly about the company's goals, opportunities, and challenges. Build trust among your team and foster an environment where employees feel empowered to share their ideas and collaborate
Present corporate/People and Culture updates at project-level townhalls
Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of Human Resources Generalist experience
Minimum 2 years in a leadership capacity
Education:
Post-secondary education in business, human resources, psychology, or a related discipline
Licenses or Certifications:
CHRL designation or equivalent experience is preferred

Outstanding, professional, and diplomatic interpersonal and communication skills in sensitive and personally charged situations
Self-starter with strong initiative, motivation, and drive to improve the experience of employees
Strong legal acumen with the ability to navigate complex employee relations issues
Ability to professionally handle and manage sensitive and personal information
Experienced in managing, coaching, and leading a team with a demonstrated willingness to step in to support department deliverables when required
Demonstrated experience delegating tasks and ensuring everyone has a balanced workload
Adept in making decisions quickly and effectively while always keeping the company's best interests in mind
Ability to arrange priorities and escalate competing risks to meet deadlines with minimum input from leadership
A keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilities with a track record for meeting deadlines
Capability to provide constructive feedback with the proven aptitude to coach and guide staff through daily and tactical challenges
Tact to perceive and resolve conflict and tension
Exemplary organization skills and attention to detail in a high-volume and fast-paced environment
