Bring your expertise to the role of Rehabilitation Officer, where you will provide rehabilitation, re-integration, classification and discharge planning programs and services for offenders with diverse needs and security requirements.

Please note this position includes rotational weekend shifts.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Provide support related to discharge planning, rehabilitation and re-integration programs and referrals, and classification
• Determine offenders' discharge needs and requirements by reviewing information from clinical and correctional sources, conducting interviews, and liaising with internal and external ministry stakeholders
• Coordinate activities related to the Temporary Absence Program (TAP)
• Refer inmates to community agencies based on their specific needs
• Facilitate offender orientation programs as well as provide advice, counselling, and information
• Obtain and assess information on offenders' return to the community and associated risks
• Conduct exit interviews, surveys and testing with offenders prior to their discharge from the institution

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

The hours for this position are 36.25 hour per week. This job requires weekend coverage on a rotational basis.

Specialized Knowledge and Experience

• You have good knowledge of the justice system, court processes, and court documentation as well as the offender classification process
• You have an understanding of risk and needs assessment tools (i.e. LSI-OR) as well as the temporary absence process
• You have knowledge of community agencies and resources to assist in the rehabilitation of inmates
• You understand the various sectors involved in the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders after release (i.e. mental health agencies, shelters, employment services, etc.)
• You have experience liaising with community partners and stakeholders in order to host case conferences and discuss issues
• You can understand and interpret CPIC data

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can liaise with institutional staff, offender families, Probation and Parole offices, and community contacts as well as interview offenders
• You have collaboration experience within a multi-disciplinary team
• You have demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality according to legislative requirements (i.e. FIPPA)

Analytical and Evaluative Skills

• You can assess offender needs and recommend suitability for program placement as well as prepare discharge plans
• You can understand and comply with relevant legislation (i.e. Ministry of Correctional Services Act and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act), regulations as well as corporate policies and procedures

Computer Skills

• You are proficient with a variety of computer software packages and database systems (such as OTIS) in order to input and retrieve data as well as prepare and maintain reports/statistics
