SMS Equipment is growing ! We are looking for a technical trainer to join our team! Reporting to the Technical Training Supervisor, the Technical Trainer will support training activities by passing on his or her technical knowledge. He or she acts as a technical resource, helping to deepen knowledge and understanding of the equipment distributed by SMS Equipment.

Training responsibilities:

  • Participates in the analysis of internal and external customers' training needs;
  • Drafts training plans in line with objectives to be achieved;
  • Drafts, prepares and adapts technical training material;
  • Follows up new mechanics/technicians on their progress (after hiring) directly in the workplace;
  • Conducts theoretical training sessions;
  • Conducts hands-on technical training in small groups or (one-on-one) directly in the workplace;
  • Responds to requests for on-the-job coaching within acceptable deadlines;
  • Delivers technical training sessions to internal and external customers at various locations;
  • Collaborates in establishing training schedules and timetables;
  • Writes theoretical and practical evaluation tests and evaluates participants;
  • Participates in train-the-trainer sessions;
  • Works in collaboration with other trainers;
  • Ensures compliance with occupational health and safety rules and policies;
  • Any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of equipment

  • Keeps abreast of equipment changes, development and application with respect to services to be provided;
  • Assists in the development and implementation of new procedures.

Maintains positive relations with manufacturers, branches, and internal and external customers.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in heavy equipment mechanics combined with a minimum of 5 years' experience as a heavy equipment technician;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English;
  • Experience in training and/or pedagogy, an asset;
  • Knowledge of MS Office, Komtrax, Insite, Absorb and computer systems;
  • Availability to travel at irregular days and times for local, national and international travel.

  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments;
  • Good judgment, initiative, positive attitude and self-confidence;
  • Good understanding of basic concepts and mechanical principles.
