1. Twenty-two permanencies at LaPresse
The newspaper famously located on rue Saint-Jacques has announced it has granted tenure to 22 supernumeraries who have worked on the development of the LaPresse + platform, great news in today’s bleak media context.
2. 5,000 new employees added to Tim Hortons’ operations
Tim Hortons, the Canadian fast food chain, is looking to boost its existing teams by hiring 5,000 new employees across the country. The well-known coffee vendor currently employs 100,000 people among its 3,630 franchises.
3. 100 jobs at Atomic Fiction
Atomic Fiction, the American visual effects studio, will be opening a facility in Montreal, creating 100 new jobs in the metropolitan area. 4. Potential in software
Berger-Levrault International Ltd., the publisher of software for organizations in the health, education and public services industries, also happens to be moving to Montreal, creating many jobs in order to develop the French company’s activities.

LAYOFFS
1. Kruger cuts 100 jobs in Sherbrooke
Due to the difficult media environment where printed newspapers are less and less in demand, the forest products company Kruger will be shutting down its newsprint mill in Brompton. 100 employees will be let go.
2. 59 jobs lost at Lantic Sugar in Montreal
Weakened by foreign competition, the Lantic Sugar factory in Montreal is seeing 59 people leave through voluntary departures, early retirements and layoffs. These layoffs, which represents 15% of the plant’s personnel, are being made to reduce costs and improve production efficiency.

3. Layoffs at Bombardier
Following last July’s announcements, Bombardier has started to cut jobs. The first layoffs took place in Belfast, in Northern Ireland.
