10% of executives plan to hire by the end of 2012
This is what the latest report on employment conducted by the Robert Half firm revealed. According to the study, 13% of Canadian executives will be increasing their workforce by the end of the year while 3% will carry out staff reductions, reducing to 10% the net proportion of executives on the point of hiring. This rate is five points ahead compared to the third quarter of 2012. Optimism is increasing recently since 34% of respondents said they are very confident about the prospects for growth of their business over the last quarter of the year and 52% said they are somewhat confident. Among the sectors most likely to hire are law (31% intention) and trade (15% intention).
One third of superiors closed to their strengths and weaknesses
A lack of openness and honesty? That’s what 37% of employees feel about some of their superiors who refuse to confide their strengths and weaknesses from a personal point of view. The study conducted by the Healthy Companies International consulting firm with 270 Canadian employees alerts managers to the risks of this behaviour: difficulties in managing staff, loss of credibility, reduced performance… This blindness can be due to a loss of openness to oneself, a way of hiding discomfort or even a lack of understanding of what is actually effective management. However, recognizing one’s weaknesses has its advantages, such as knowing how to surround yourself with persons who have the qualities you are lacking.
