The proof is in the tooth

Has one of your employees got you gnashing your teeth? A tooth for a tooth! A supervisor in the Smurfit-Stone paper plant in Pointe-aux-Trembles, Quebec, asked an employee who had a dentist appointment to justify his absence by providing him with the tooth. The employee complied as a show of good faith.

The plant’s union considers the request unusual, but mainly ridiculous, and is considering filing a complaint so that such requests, considered abusive, do not become the norm. Frédéric Morin, vice-president of local 245 of the Communications, Energy & Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP), furthermore points out that no justification of absence is required for non-attendance of less than 48 hours.
