The reverse job fair – an “upside-down” concept

Those who have already had the opportunity to suffer the impersonal atmosphere of the overcrowded job fairs and other vocational training fairs will soon understand the interest in such a concept: it is job seekers (and not employers) who exhibit.

The first edition took place in the year 2000. This year it will take place on 7th and 8th May on two different sites: Ottawa and Sudbury. In order to best market themselves, apprentice workshops are offered to job seekers, and then D-Day kicks off with stand installation, soon followed by a motivation session. The fair itself takes place in the afternoon. The employers “shop”, and thus have the opportunity to meet “a crowd of motivated, dedicated, and completely innovative job seekers” in one place. For the job seekers, the effort seems worth all the pain as “100% of participants get interviews there and then”. When will this type of fair reach Quebec?
