Acquisition of Venatus Conseil by the Mandrake Group

The acquisition of by the is now effective. Venatus, the accounting, finance, legal services and human resources recruiting specialist, will merge with Mandrake's Montreal office by year end. This alliance will allow Venatus to extend its geographic reach via Mandrake's presence in Toronto and Calgary and to diversify its activities while keeping its corporate recruiting specialty and its "Talent broker" trademark. Both firms aim to achieve synergy by building on the complementarity of their practices.

Job portal launched for Microsoft specialists

Developed in partnership with Microsoft, MSEmploy.ca was launched in Canada in July 2008. It is designed exclusively for Microsoft technology professionals or people wishing to acquire such skills. Companies can post suitable positions (job or internship listings) and organizations can list their training sessions.

Employers can search the database in two ways: via time or token access. For example, 20 resumes cost C$200 to $300 and 300 resumes between C$1,000 and $2,000. Unlimited access for a month is between C$600 and $900, and annual access a little less than C$5,000. The network of MSEmploy sites was launched in Europe in 2006. A site was first set up in France through a partnership between Microsoft and Vascoo, a computer specialist recruiting firm. Similar sites were then opened in Italy, Sweden and Germany. The concept should extend to the U.S. and U.K. by the end of the year.

Merger of Corp Shorts and Executive Search Firm

With the increasing use of videos in this field, especially via corporate videos and video resumes, Corp Shorts and Executive Search Firm decided to merge their resources. Objective: to develop online recruiting tools to allow recruitment and search firms as well as corporate management to brand themselves more visibly to attract the best talent on the market. According to Corp Shorts, there is nothing better than a corporate video profile to showcase a company's uniqueness. HR professionals in the UK earning more, but working longer hours

HR professionals in the UK are earning more, according to a recent survey of over 5,700 professionals released September 18 by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). The private sector had the strongest growth, followed by the voluntary and public sectors. Many of the professionals polled thought that salaries would rise more slowly in 2009, however. Moreover, HR professionals in all business sectors are working longer hours, with 73% of respondents working at least 40 hours a week vs 62% in 2007.

Workopolis joins The Network

On September 18, Workopolis announced its partnership with The Network, a global network of 36 job sites including Keljob, Bestjob and Jobstreet. The Network, founded in 2002 by StepStone and Totaljobs, is a strategic alliance of recruitment job boards in 70 countries. It currently has over 1,000 clients and 75 million jobseekers. Workopolis is the first Canadian site to join the network.
