CanWest, the most important media company in Canada, finalized the acquisition of the most important retail niche job board in Canada yesterday; .
This acquisition follows the transformation of the site Careerclick.com to Working.com a little over a year ago. The arrival of Kim Peter (former President and co-founder of Workopolis) and the Working.com project at CanWest MediaWorks, is at the origin of this change in course. The arrival of Working.com was more than necessary, with Careerclick having never succeeded in securing a place on the job board market proportionate to the resources of a group like CanWest.
Is it about a simple traffic acquisition “à la Monster” or a true desire to immerse themselves in the growing specialized job board market? Only time will tell. For now, we have been promised that the name canadianretail.com and its niche positioning which have made this site a success, will remain intact.
Is this the beginning of a series of acquisitions and concentrations on the online recruitment industry in Canada? Brenda Dumont, former recruiter in the field of retail and founder of canadianretail.com in 2001 is expecting to have some “very interesting” times with her new employer…
It is predicted that the transfer of offers, clients, candidates and technology from canadianretail.com over to Working.com will be finalized by mid-November, just in time for the official press release.
